This is one of Expand’s current projects in a remote forestry village called Kalungulu. We have renovated and upgraded this small remote primary school in the Viphya Forest.
Volunteers have come to help paint and build some basic toilets but more will be done in 2016. Expand has just raised some funds from Citrefine International Ltd to construct new toilets and urinals, establish a container office, and start a tree planting and school garden project. This will feed the children and educate them on sustainable conservation agriculture. Some of the funds will cover some resources and printing for class work will help improve the standard of education as well.
This school has been neglected for many years but aims to become an outgrower for local company, Kawandama Hills, that will help with income- generation that will help the school become more sustainable and independent. Expand has submitted a proposal for funding to construct container school blocks so watch this space! If you would like to volunteer at the school or with Kawandama Hills then please get in touch.
