Chisala School was built by the Build Malawi Project in 2007/08 and was initiated by Tanya who moved to Malawi to complete the project. The following structures were built: 4 double classroom blocks, 4 teacher’s houses, administration block,  IT centre, urinals and toilets, a library, borehole and piped water and a sports block.

The school was opened by the British High Commissioner in 2008 and handed over to the government. The government pays for teachers and resources, and Expand helps add to these and with annual maintenance.

Chisala now has around 600 students and 11 teachers. There is now a new school leadership and Chisala has said goodbye to its founding headmaster, Mr. Banda. We wish the new administration all the best! For 2016, Expand has completed the construction of 4 new teacher's houses and now will focus on a literacy boost scheme, sports, tree planting and a schoo garden.

From 2016 - 2022:
We've been very busy in the last few years and we'd like to thank all our donors for their continued help and support. Here's what we've been up to...

  • The Sports Centre has now been converted into two teachers houses. Good accommodation for teachers is a huge issue in Malawi so having nice houses is a big attraction. Chisala School now has ___ teachers all living onsite and their accommodation is setup with kitchen, living area and bedrooms.

  • We still do LOTS of sport at Chisala which have thriving football and netball teams! We recently received some brand new balls thanks to the Great Football Giveaway!

  • Expand recently replaced the school's water tank and the borehole pump which has made a huge differences to the village's access to clean water.

  • Expand has funded an onsite security guard

  • We have also helped fund and secure a connection to the mainline electricity for the school and houses. The teachers now have the ability to manage their own Escom supply.
