EXPAND

Expand currently supports 8 students from Chisala with secondary school fees that vary depending on whether they are day school or boarding.  The scheme has been largely successful as dealing with school administrators is a challenge, but we have had a majority of successes.  Two students have already graduated from the scheme after completing the final year, Form 4.

 

Now that Chisala students have a secondary school nearby, this has changed the landscape for some of the more promising students. A student must pass the Primary level Standard 8 exams to be considered for a government secondary school and space is very limited. There is notorious nepotism in the government system that decides which child may get selected to a government secondary school.

 

In the Expand scheme, you can send a child to a private secondary school with boarding for GBP 150/year (GBP 12/month). Expand conducts a basic means testing with the teachers and also analyses the exam results to see which students should benefit from the scheme.
